Being Thankful

For everything we have been given

What we have is not the result of random chance or dumb luck. While we may have worked diligently to build our careers, our homesteads and our finances, in the end, all that we have has been graciously loaned to us. At any time, any or all of it may be required to be returned. We came into this world with nothing and will leave with nothing... except hopefully a knowledge of God's saving grace through His Son, Jesus.

Whether a little or a lot, we must be thankful.

Our Health

“Whereas you know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away.” (James 4:14)

Life is miraculous and for however long we live it is a blessing from above. Waking each day is not promised to any of us. May we do something daily that is pleasing in His sight and helpful to others.

Our Hearts

"Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life." (Proverbs 4:23) He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds. (Psalm 147:3)

We are to keep both our thoughts and the intent of our hearts fixated on that which is good and promotes sound living. We who are older have scarred hearts from past events, relationships and other hardships. Jesus can heal us from our past.

Our Homes

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. (Psalm 23:6) Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah. (Psalm 84:4)

Having a home is such a blessing and is the place we rest the best. Let us remain thankful. So many have nowhere to call home. Let us pray for them to find refuge.

Our Needs

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19)

If needs are daily requirements and desires are not needs then we know God will supply our needs. Many times our desires are not in our best interests and lead us into places we may get lost for quite a long time. Then it will take a lot of work to escape from those desires and return to the realization that our actual needs are always satisfied.

His Promises

Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you. (Hebrews 13:5) And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. (John 10:28)

Hundreds of promises are recorded in the Bible. Those promises are always fulfilled. Of that we can be sure. We are to be comforted knowing God has promised us so much.

Our Future

And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. (Rev. 21:1) And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” (Rev. 21:4)

What a glorious future awaits those who believe.
